Business Valuation

Whether you are buying or selling a business, engaged in pending litigation, or need a valuation for tax or financing purposes, we can help guide you through the many challenges or opportunities that drive the need for a business valuation. Just as all types of our work at The Doty Group begin with the development of a deep understanding of a client’s business, so do our valuations. We build upon that understanding with passion and precision to create a quality result which we can also set up to defend in trial as expert witnesses.

Services we provide most commonly for marital dissolution, buy/sell agreements, business loss claims, estate planning, gift and estate taxation, admission or buy-out of shareholders and financing include:

  • Financial Reporting

  • Tax Planning and Compliance

  • Merger & Acquisition Support

  • Restructuring

  • Planning & Business Decision Support

  • KPI Identification and Market Insights

Forensic Accounting

Cases over missing money and suspected fraud can be won or lost by the accounting and finance experts that have been chosen to investigate and testify. The Doty Group provides forensic accounting services and fraud investigation or detection for business owners and individuals who are faced with complex insurance and legal issues. Our team helps to reduce the impact of a dispute on our clients by applying our specialized skills, experience, and resources to data analytics and client-specific goals, budget, and requirements of the court. We have decades of experience providing depositions, mediation support, and expert witness testimony, as well as third-party arbitration assistance in other dispute resolution forums.

  • Discreet Internal Control Analysis

  • Review of Accounting Records

  • Staff Interviews

  • Loss Report Preparation for Insurance or Prosecution

  • Follow-up Consulting and Recovery Support

  • Determining Income of Parties for Child Support and/or Spousal Maintenance

Economic Loss Calculations

Our loss calculations include only the quantifiable losses - lost profits, lost fringe benefits and loss in household services. Our reports do not include hedonic damages which are intangible damages - lost love and affection, lost quality of life, pain and suffering, etc., as these are damages that are typically awarded, if appropriate, by a judge or jury. We have testified a number of times in personal and business economic loss cases nationwide both in Superior and Federal Courts.

Business economic loss claims typically result from:

  • violation of non-compete agreements

  • fire damages

  • theft loss

  • easement issues related to access

  • unfulfilled contracts

Personal economic losses typically result from

  • auto accidents

  • medical malpractice cases

  • discrimination

  • wrongful termination

  • wrongful death matters.

internationally-recognized leadership

Litigation and Business Valuation services are extremely specialized. Few CPAs are credentialed to prepare the reports needed for these situations. Not only do we have over 20 years of this specialized experience, we prepare the reports while helping our clients gain a greater understanding of their businesses and the marketplace. Our team has continued training, significant experience, and the ability to work strategically with expert staff from other practice areas of The Doty Group to provide full-service support.
